Campfire Cooking

    • Gather around the campfire and learn to cook a dinner like you’ve never tasted before. Our chef Alana Richer is mom to three boys and helped us pick out three gourmet recipes the whole family will love. Dishes are made with local, organic and healthy ingredients including fresh vegetables from Family Earth’s garden! Families are provided with all the tools, ingredients, and assistance they need. 
    • Here’s how it works: sign up and choose your dinner, arrive and pick your fresh veggies from the gardens, a short walk to your private site in the woods where you will find your fire and your ingredients waiting for you, follow your recipe, enjoy, and stay as long as you like!

    • What’s on the menu: Campfire Chili, Quesadillas, and Chickpea Cauliflower Wraps. Delicious vegan and vegetarian versions are available for the Quesadillas and Chickpea Cauliflower Wraps.

Art With Nature – Branches to Sketches

    • Participants in Mohawk artist Jade Thompson’s (they/them) outdoor workshop will forage and use twigs, leaves, grasses, and pinecones to draw landscapes and other nature-inspired art – birds, flowers, butterflies, bees, etc. – with water-soluble coloured inks on eco-paper. Jade will demonstrate some of the beautiful effects that can be achieved using ecological materials and share their knowledge of colour theory, line, and form.

Art With Nature – Upcycled Basketmaking

    • Basketmakers have always used materials they have found in their environment. In this workshop master weaver Janet Whitman shows participants how to use traditional basketry techniques to upcycle modern materials with beautiful and functional results. This workshop is recommended for people 6 years and older.

Nature Playshops

    • During Nature Playshops kids engage in unstructured outdoor play with open ended natural materials following the principles of “loose parts play”. Kids have fun, build skills, and learn to love nature. Family Earth’s founder, Rochelle, mentors grownups on how to facilitate nature play and get your family outdoors more. Each week our play and learning takes place in a new environment with different materials.

Growing Families Gardening Workshops

  • Timing: Workshops start at 10am and run for two hours. Come early or stay afterwards to wander through 34 acres of forest, meadows and wetlands.

    • Get your hands dirty in Family Earth’s beautiful veggie and wildflower gardens. Learn organic gardening skills, get expert advice on how to start or improve your own garden, and have fun as a family. Gardening workshops are guided by Michaela and Conor, Family Earth’s in-house gardeners. Each of our unique workshop themes run for two weeks to give everyone a chance to catch each set of skills.
