As October arrives, it brings a fun mix of thrills and chills that draws our community together for Halloween festivities. People of all ages love this time of year, diving into haunted houses, spooky events, and ghost stories that give us just the right amount of fright. There’s something special about getting scared together—it creates laughter, bonding, and memories that we cherish long after the last pumpkin is put away.
Halloween traces its origins back to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, celebrated over 2,000 years ago marking the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter. During this time, people believed that the boundary between the living and the dead was blurred, leading to various customs to ward off spirits. When Irish immigrants brought these traditions to Canada in the 19th century, Halloween began to evolve into the festive celebration we know today, complete with costumes and trick-or-treating.
SD&G offers a fantastic array of spooky events during the Halloween season. Visitors flock from near and far to marvel at the stunning display of 9,000 hand-carved pumpkins at Upper Canada Village, while thrill-seekers venture into Acres of Terror for an unforgettable fright! Whether you’re in the mood for enchanting sights or heart-pounding scares, there’s something for everyone to enjoy here in SD&G County. Check them out below!!!
