Summerstown – Join us on Sunday, January 15, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m., for a day of family-friendly activities as the Friends of the Summerstown Trails (FOTST) will officially mark the start of the 2023 season. We’ll have free XC ski, snowshoe and fat bike rentals, volunteers to act as guides on the trails and hot chocolate by the fire to warm you up…and marshmallows for the kids. A great way to start the season!

Thanks to special grants, our donors and member support, our volunteer organization is able to continue to improve the trails, with significant changes occurring in the past few months. We have finalized the school portable renovations, installed a permanent shelter in the old parking lot, developed a new trail and more.

FOTST president Vic Leroux is enthused about the coming season. “With the lessening of the public health measures, the schools are back on board with field trips, and all of the available dates in January and February are fully booked!” He went on to add that “we are looking at running a near-normal season, and everything is in place to have our weekend rental program of equipment, host our special events and offer our kids and adult Learn-to Ski programs.”

We hope that those who have never visited the trails will use this opportunity to discover this gem of a place right in our own backyard. The Summerstown Trails offer 18 km of groomed XC ski trails for both classic and skating, and a separate network of 11 km of snowshoe and groomed fat bike trails. The trails are located on Summerstown Road, 1.6 km north of exit 804 of the 401, and are open seven days a week. There is no charge to access the trails.
