The unofficial start to summer in Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry is this weekend – and have we ever got you covered.
There are an array of family-friendly activities taking place across our region. We’ve picked a few that will keep you, the kiddos and everyone entertained for hours.
HISTORIC SDG JAIL
After two years of COVID closures the United Counties is thrilled to welcome visitors back to our haunted jail. The jail will be open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays for tours all summer long. Guided tours take place at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2 p.m.
See you in the cells!
UPPER CANADA VILLAGE
Touring Upper Canada Village is a magical experience, transporting you back in time to the 1860s. A key part of the experience is the authentic buildings that make up the village, the activities that take place throughout the site, and the historic interpreters that bring history to life.
Upper Canada Village is open all summer from May 21 to Sept. 18. You can book tickets online here: tickets.parks.on.ca/event/9623:25/
GLENGARRY PIONEER MUSEUM
2022 marks the 60th anniversary of the Glengarry Pioneer Museum, in Dunvegan.
The museum is opening on schedule this coming long weekend – May 21-23 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. daily.
Several events are being planned for the summer and fall, such as the Smith-In Blacksmith weekend, Stitch In Time textile day, Music Under the Stars, an art show by the Glengarry Artists’ Collective, a new Honey Fair, and the popular Harvest Fall Festival and 1812 Living History weekend in September. The museum will also be going out on location to local fairs and even welcoming school trips back to the site. There is guaranteed to be lots to do for those who want to explore the area this summer.
CELEBRATION OF FRIENDSHIP
After three long years, everyone is eagerly waiting for this year’s edition of the Glengarry Highland Games on July 29-30.
For those who can’t wait that long, there will be an opportunity to have a little taste of all things Scottish on May 21 and 22 as part of Cornwall’s 1784 Celebration. Along with many of the heritage groups from throughout SDG, the games will be presenting displays of traditional events along with an exciting mini-tattoo on Saturday evening.
Starting Saturday morning, May 21 and continuing through to Sunday afternoon, join the Games at Lamoureux Park to enjoy fiddling, gaelic, heavyweight, and broadsword demonstrations.
