Winter Classes Now Available at Cornerstone Farm

This winter, Cornerstone Farms is pleased to continue offering classes. Cornerstone Farm, is located in historic Glengarry County, and was established with the intention of reviving many of the homesteading arts that are being forgotten and put aside for the appeal of the more modern lifestyle. Cornerstone Farm strives for self-sufficiency by striking a balance between the wisdom from the past and the demands of the present.

Knitting For Beginners Class

Saturdays, Jan 29, Feb 5, 12 & 26, 2022,10 am-12:30 pm

This is a class for the beginner who wants to learn to knit. In this class you will learn the basic knitting skills needed to move on to more complex projects. In four weeks you will receive step by step instruction, hands on learning and follow up lessons while completing two projects. Learn which needles and yarn are best to use, how to read knitting patterns, cast on and bind off, knit and purl stitches and other basic stitches. You will also learn to knit in the round (in circles) and techniques for fixing mistakes in your knitting projects.


Price: $130.00 +HST. 4 sessions. No experience necessary. Some material costs to be discussed in first session.

Double Knit Mittens Class

Wednesdays, Jan 19, Feb 2 & 16, 2022, 1:30-4:00 pm

Double knitting creates a two layer fabric in stockinette stitch that is finished on both sides. Both sides of the work are a mirror image reversing the color pattern while knitting both sides simultaneously. In this class students will learn the double knit technique by knitting a pair of mittens that will keep your hands toasty warm.

Price: $100.00 +HST. 3 sessions. Knowledge of basic knitting necessary. Does not include cost of materials available on first day of class.

Knitting Socks Class

Wednesdays, Jan 26, Feb 9 & 23, 2022, 6:30-9:00 pm

Participants will learn to knit socks including learning how to complete the heel flap, pick up gusset stitches and closing the toe using the Kitchener stitch. Various methods will be explored including knitting two socks at a time on two circular needles as well as the traditional double pointed needles method.


Price: $100.00 +HST. 3 sessions. Knowledge of basic knitting necessary. Does not include cost of materials.

Making a Fur Pom Pom Class

Wednesday, March 2, 2022, 6:30-9:00 pm

In this class, students will learn how to create a fur pompom using repurposed furs. These look great on a toque or to finish off the ends of a scarf.

Price: $40.00 +HST. 1 sessions. includes cost of materials.

Knitted Celtic Oak Pillow Class

Saturdays, Feb 19, Mar 5, 26, Apr 2, 2022, 10 am-12:30 pm

This project is for the knitter looking increase their knowledge of knitting. The pattern by Barbara A Pott incorporates several techniques such as Celtic knots, short rows, mitred corners, 3 dimensional features, appliqués, wet finish and blocking, sewing inlays, as well as sewing together of various pieces. The tech-niques learned in this class are used in many other projects and are all incorporated into this one beautiful project that will adorn your home for years to come.

Introduction to Weaving Class

Saturday, March 12, 2022, 10 am to 4 pm

This is a class for the beginner who wants to learn to weave. You will receive step by step instruction and hands on learning. Topics will include: various looms and their functions, various yarns and fibres, warp and weft, regular beam and sectional beam, reading weaving patterns, weaving on a lap loom.


Price: $135.00 +HST. Bring a lunch. Full day class. No prior knowledge required

Fixing Errors in Your Knitting Project Class

Saturday, March 19, 2022, 10 am-12:30 pm

Learning how to fix errors in your knitting project is a must have skill as the solution is not always ripping out hours of knitting that may lead to frustration and disappointment. In this class students will learn how to run down a row of stitching to change or repair a stitch, picking up dropped stitches and other skills that can be used to alter a project after it is com-pleted like shortening or adding to a sleeve or body of a sweater or other projects.

Price: $40.00 +HST. One session. Basic knitting skills required.

Knit Felted Pillow Class

Wednesday, March 9, 23 & 30, 2022, 1:30-4:00 pm

Knit then felting has been around since the early 1600’s. This takes advantage of wool’s natural property to felt easily when agitated and manipulated in warm water. This will be an introduction to knitting and then wet felting, a technique that can be used for all sorts of projects from mittens, hats, slippers to cushions and other household items. A closed circular cast on is used in this project which also has many other applications.

Price: $100.00 +HST. 3 sessions. Knowledge of basic knitting necessary. Does not include cost of materials available on first day of class.

Short Row Heels Class

Wednesday, March 16, 2022, 6:30-9:00 pm

Short rows are a method of shaping. In the case of a sock heel, short rows are used to shape a cup shape that turns and forms a heel. This type of heel is also perfect for working a heel of contrasting color. Closing the toe of the sock can also be made in the same way for a truly great finish to your socks.

Price: $40.00 +HST. 1 sessions. Knowledge of basic knitting necessary. Students must come with a knitted section of sock ready for a heel.

If you have a group who would like a class catered to your needs, please contact Cornerstone Farm and discuss the possibilities. Scheduled classes can be changed to a different day or time to accommodate participants whenever possible. Materials can be purchased at Cornerstone Farm.


Terms and Conditions of Class Registration: All classes and workshops require payment in full upon registration in order to confirm your spot. If you are unable to attend a course, we will transfer you to the next available date. A minimum of two weeks notice is required for transfer. No refunds will be made. There are no refunds provided for missed classes. During the covid-19 pandemic, dates and times of classes may change to accommodate any man-dated requirements by the health and government authorities.
